You have probably heard the word e-commerce around but don't really understand it, e-commerce is electronic marketing in shorts it's when your buy or sell a product or service through the internet. E-commerce has become a massive money making industry since the internet has become so popular, the amount of money made through e-commerce sites is at an all time high.
One of the main aspects of e-commerce is online shopping, with nearly all supermarkets and retail shops having sites which allow customers to order products online. Since the development of online shopping nearly all supermarkets now allow customers to go online to do their weekly shopping and get it delivered to your house, this service has become hugely popular. Retail shops also make nearly half their sales from online shoppers. As well as high street shops having online shopping, in recent years sites have started that only make their money through the internet, just being an online shopping site for example ASOS. Online shopping has become so popular as it allows people to shop from their home, at anytime of the day!
Another area that has become a big player in the e-commerce industry is downloading music online. Currently the biggest market share holder is the iTunes store, this allows people to go onto iTunes and buy singles, individual song, albums, soundtracks and even films. Online music stores have become much more popular as the development of technology has gotten better; iTunes is part of Apple which has the iPods that automatically download iTunes. Towards the end of 2009 a number of famous artist set about to try and ban illegal downloading promoting site like the iTunes store, as well as trying to put a law in place to get illegal downloading stopped altogether.
E-commerce use a number of techniques and incentives to get their site the most popular, online shopping sites offer a variety to discounts of online shoppers as well as doing products that are only available on the internet. Supermarket chains also offer online incentives, for example a lot of supermarkets offer insurance policies now, as well as offering them in store they offer them online, with online sign ups receiving at least a 10% discount.
Of course they are also the big auctioning sites that have become hugely popular amongst online shopper with eBay and Amazon being 2 of the most visited websites every day. These are so popular as they allow people to sell unwanted items as well as buying products on the site.
